Ráed Al-Rawi
Mr. Raed is passionate about how art education encourages children to value themselves and their unique ideas through introducing new materials and projects. Mr. Raed believes that nurturing creativity and imagination is essential to children’s whole development. In his teaching, Mr. Raed guides children with step-by-step instructions while encouraging fun ways to unleash their creativity. His goal is for each of his students to feel seen, heard and respected while they also have fun!
For over twenty years he has taught painting, illustration, animation and graphic design to students of all ages. Mr. Raed’s teaching methods focus on being patient, creating a fun atmosphere and giving positive feedback. Being a parent has also enhanced my teaching, as he sees every day how positive encouragement is powerful with his own children.

Artist’s Statement: Traveling is a journey we take in our bodies and our minds. The images of flying people, animals and articles are intended to give a sense of dream-like freedom as we travel on our journeys. It’s my hope these flying scenes going in the direction of the gates will bring conversations, thoughts and humorous relief to travelers. I believe the images provide to the viewer a surreal quality and imagination to the landscape of North Carolina from the mountains in “Journey 1” mural to the beaches in “Journey 2” mural.
